Prologue
The twitterive project include many things that I don't normally do. The first is tweeting, and the second is going out of my comfort zone.
The definition of a tweet came from the Merriam-Webster dictionary website, the first part of this definition is one that would be found in these dictionaries all over the United States, however in 2011, the definition expanded to the world of digital writing and digital media. It took into consideration the growing world of social media (another definition added in the year 2011) and added on to the meaning with "to post a message to the Twitter online message service." These technological advancements and my courage to try something new are what made my twitterive possible.
And so it all began...
After being instructed to try something new and tweet about it, the event I decided to attend was "Life in Color," formerly known as "Dayglow." Dayglow is the worlds largest paint party that involves house music, thousands of people, and massive amounts of paint. The group as a whole attends in white with the hopes of leaving completely covered in neon pigments from every color of the rainbow. While I was there I took the opportunity to use the Twitter app on my phone and tweet about the experience. I tweeted about how I felt on the bus, how I felt at the event, what was going on around me, and how the other people were acting too. However, little did I know that just participating in this paint party led to a circle of controlling values. One specifically that I looked at was how one of the main purposes individuals go to Dayglow is to loosing oneself in a combination of paint in dance due to the fact that most people live rather constrained because they're afraid to let go due to how it may affect how others view them. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to go. I go through school daily working with my fellow students, professors, my supervisors and my boss. I wanted to prove to mainly myself, but also to these groups of people that I am at Rowan University for a reason and can earn the grades or work hours that I want or do receive. Yet, Dayglow gave me a chance to express myself with a few friends and a few thousand strangers in a generally judgement-free zone. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, or act like I do on a daily basis because "letting loose" was what I was focused on. Even when looking at the smaller aspects of Dayglow, those are things people do to get away, and break the constrained life - dancing, painting, drinking, and music. Just like the purpose of maintaing composure, and making wise decisions, one does these because they live a constrained because of the worries about how others look at you, which can ultimately lead to an empty existence if that is what controls you. I got a chance to break out of these controlling values, but I didn't even realize I broke out until I discovered what these values were through the twitterive project.
